Westport
The town of Westport is a small
community located in Southeastern,
Massachusetts, bordered by Fall
River on the north and west;
Dartmouth on the east; the Atlantic
Ocean on the South; and Tiverton and
Little Compton, Rhode Island on the
west.
Westport is a town of farms, of beautiful
scenery, of people who live from the water, of small businesses and
of homes. Each of these aspects of the community is characterized
and strengthened by the superb natural resources to be found within
the town’s borders. The key to Westport’s recreational resources
also lies within its natural environment.
Another inducement for potential residents is
the fact the town has easy access to Interstate 195 just about 15
miles west of New Bedford or east of Fall River.
The town was first settled in 1670, incorporated
in 1787. With 21% of the town’s 12,978 residents being senior
citizens, it’s only natural that a senior citizen’s center became a
focal point for those people to congregate.
The environmental, particularly the beautiful
Westport River, is of underlying interest to residents and town
official, many of whom aim to maintain the town’s rural character.
